Following their shocking 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau on Friday in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has promised Nigerians that the team will try their best and represent the nation with pride next time.

Iwobi addressed the media after Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria at the Abuja National Stadium.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Mama Balde’s first-half goal gave Guinea-Bissau the victory over Nigeria.

The loss to Guinea-Bissau has now dropped Jose Peseiro’s team to second place in Group A.

Samuel Okwaraji’s last breath on the Pitch — A reminder that time is never ours to keep

“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result,” Iwobi told the media after the game.

“All we can do is to improve, and to all the fans, all I can say is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation.

“Next time, we’re going to do our best and make the country proud.

“We know we’re privileged to wear the shirt, there are a lot of people who want to be in this position.”

The Everton player added: “I don’t think we played under pressure. Like the coach [Peseiro] said, they scored with the only chance they created in the game.”

Nigeria will now face Guinea-Bissau in the return leg on Monday.
