The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Labour Party says 11 officials of the party have been suspended.

The party said the affected officials were suspended for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities during the March 18 governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state.

The Chairman of Labour Party in the state, Alexander Ombugu, and the Assistant Secretary, Ashime Benjamin, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday released in Lafia.

The statement said the suspension was done in conjunction with the national body of the party to forestall future occurrence of such behaviors among members of the party.

It added that the suspended executive members included officials from both the state and local government levels.

Among the suspended officials were the state secretary of the party, Dahiru Abubakar; Women Leader, Hajara Dalhatu; and Treasurer, Musa Doma.

Others are chairman of the party in LGAs. They include Keffi LGA, Kurah Tente; Obi LGA, Ashefo Jubrin; Akwanga LGA, Promise Ezekiel; Karu LGA, Muhammad Aruwa; Nasarawa LGA, Abdullahi Eya; Awe LGA, Abdulrahaman Kasimu; Nasarawa Eggon LGA, Achuku Ibrahim; and Lafia LGA, Muhammad Aliyu.

Ombugu said, “With reference to a complaint letter to the national body of LP dated 24/3/2023 on the misconduct of some state and local government executive members of the party and the response received.

“We wish to bring to your notice that the suspended members have gone contrary to the provions of the party’s Constitution in Article 19 Part ‘B’ and No. 2, which stipulate disciplinary measures for anti-party activities that lead to embarrassment, contempt, and ridicule of the party.

“In the build-up to the governorship election, our party governorship candidate, Joseph Ewuga, stepped down for the PDP governorship candidate, David Ombugadu.

“He informed the party and we communicated same to the national body of our great party but these executives of the party in Nasarawa State went ahead to endorse the governorship candidate of another political party without recourse to the Labour Party; that is why they are being suspended today.”

Ombugu added that a five-man committee had been constituted and given two weeks to investigate the suspended members’ activities.

“If they are found guilty, disciplinary actions would be taken against them accordingly to the laws of the party,” he said.
