Abershi Musa, the chairman of Taraba State’s Ussa Local Government Council’s Caretaker Committee, is said to have resigned.
Musa announced his decision in a letter sent to Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
I write to notify you of my voluntary resignation as the Caretaker Chairman of Ussa Local Government Council with effect from today, the 5th of April, 2023, the letter reads.
WITHIN NIGERIA understands that the council boss did not explain his resignation. Musa’s resignation, however, was reportedly forced by the continued attacks and killings in his neighborhood by bandits.
Several people were said to have died as a result of the attacks, and goods worth millions of naira were also destroyed in separate attacks.
The house of the council’s traditional ruler was recently attacked and set ablaze by suspected herdsmen. According to a source familiar with the situation in the area, Musa’s resignation as council chairman “has become necessary following the state government’s inability to end the senseless killings and destruction of the property going on in Ussa.”
In addition, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain who spoke with the news platform stated that Musa resigned because the state government was unable to end the unrest in the council.
An associate of the former chairman who spoke also on the condition of anonymity, said: “I must confess to you that my friend is fed up with the whole situation.”
