The Senator representing Imo West and former National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Izunaso, has explained why he visited President Muhammadu Buhari recently in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Izunaso stated that he visited Buhari for a conversation on the need for him to emerge as Senate President of the 10th Assembly.

He said his track records of experience in both chambers of the National Assembly and knowledge of Nigeria’s political history among others stood him out.

The lawmaker-elect stated these during a chat with newsmen on Monday in Abuja.

According to Izunaso, he is the most senior member of the upper chamber from the South-East and that he is the most qualified for the position.

“Having not produced the president of Nigeria since independence except for the six-month stint of General Aguiyi Ironsi as Military Head of State in 1966, the intense Igbo sentiment against political exclusion and marginalisation in Nigeria is justified,” he said.

Izunaso, who was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2003 and later into the Senate in 2007, said he would use the legislative experience he had garnered over the years to bear on his new role as senate president for the smooth running of governance if given the mandate.
