One Emmanuel Adebayo, a pastor, has been remanded in correctional facility over the alleged murder of one Toyin Olatunji, his tenant.

A magistrates’ court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, ordered the remand of the 56-year-old pastor on Thursday.

Adebayo, a pastor in a Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, was apprehended in his residence in connection with the death of the 50-year-old woman.

The defendant committed the offence on the 4th of April 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, at about 3 pm, Abdulateef Suliaman, the prosecutor, told the court.

The prosecutor said a quarrel ensued between the duo and out of anger, the defendant unlawfully killed the woman by pushing her to the floor. The defendant became unconscious and later died.

Sulaiman added that the offence contravenes Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Defence counsel, however, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable his client to file a counter affidavit to the application sought by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Tope Aladejana ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till 27 0f April for the ruling.
