Muktar Aliyu Betara, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, has taken his campaign to Saudi Arabia as lawmakers-elect lobby for the speakership in the 10th National Assembly.
WITHIN NIGERIA learned that Betara on Monday, held an expanded consultation with leaders and members of various state caucuses during the meeting in the holy city of Makkah.
Returning and newly elected National Assembly members from Adamawa, Katsina, Kaduna, Gombe, Jigawa, and Bauchi states attended the holy land meeting.
Betara, who had stormed Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj as part of Ramadan tradition, told lawmakers-elect from all parties that he was willing to transport everyone regardless of affiliation.
According to the DAILY POST, those in attendance praised Betara’s leadership qualities and support for his contemporaries, regardless of religious, ethnic, or political affiliations.
Given his position as Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, the caucus reportedly agreed that it had everything it needed to rally behind the lawmaker.
Tinubu Support Group Backs Betara As Next Speaker
Meanwhile, the Network of Tinubu Support Group has endorsed Muktar Betara as the next Speaker.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Betara was re-elected to the lower legislative chamber to represent the Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency.
However, a lawmaker who has not formally declared his intention to run for Speaker of the House may run for the position.
During a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the group’s President, Moses Ikani, stated that Betara is qualified to effect the changes that Nigeria requires through the legislature.
Ikani described Betara as a highly resourceful legislator who understands the difficulties that come with leading the legislative branch of government.
He went on to say that the Borno legislator has the ability to supplement the office’s actions and policies, ensuring the country’s much-needed turnaround.
