Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker, responded to the Old Bailey, London’s Central Criminal Court, Friday’s sentence of former Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and a doctor, Obinna Obeta, to prison.

In a tweet on Friday, Sani wrote: “Senator Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obinna; the UK Court is done, and the Lord shall see you through.”

Recall that the UK court gave Ekweremadu a nine years and eight months sentence, while giving his wife Beatrice and Obinna Obeta sentences of four and ten years, respectively, in prison.

Following their conviction for organ trafficking in March, which resulted in a six-week sentence, it became the first of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

Prior to the sentence, Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to arrange the travel of a young Nigerian man identified as David Nwamini to Britain in order to exploit him for his kidney.

The kidney organ was intended for Ekweremadu’s sick daughter, Sonia.
