The Adamawa State Government has lifted the moratorium on nongovernmental organization (NGOs) activities.

Before the March 18 Governorship/House of Assembly elections, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri personally announced that all NGO activities in the state will be suspended.

In a news conference, he stated that NGOs had been determined to be engaging in anti-peace political actions.

“While lifting the suspension, Governor Fintiri appreciates their cooperation which has in no small way contributed to the successful conduct of the elections,” the governor’s Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, said in a statement to newsmen Monday evening.

“The governor urged them to go about their humanitarian activities according to the rules of engagement in order to deliver on their mandate,” Wonosikou added.

Recall that the March 18 governorship election in view tested the peace of Adamawa State.

After it was held and then declared inconclusive, a repeat election on April 15 was disrupted after one of the leading candidates, Senator Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared winner even when she did not have the highest votes and even when results from 10 LGAs had not been collated.

The state REC at the time, Hudu Yunusa-Ari who made the illegal declaration, is today talking to the police over the act.
