Some Kogi State leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the state’s governorship election in November 2023.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello received a group of former members of the PDP from Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.

According to The Sun, among those who defected were the former caretaker Chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, as well as Hon. Adama Sani and Aikoye Anu, Ajaka Ward 1 and 2 defectors.

Others include Ahmed Mahmud, former President of the PDP National Youth Movement, and Saidatu Ogohi, the Ajaka Ward 1 Women Leader.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Abdullahi Ibrahim stated that they joined the APC because of the progress made by Governor Bello’s administration, particularly at the local government level.

The rehabilitation of the Umomi-Akpagidigbo-Ugwolawo-Ajaka-Idah road, a significant infrastructure project in Igalamela, is noteworthy, according to Ibrahim.

The former PDP chieftain praised the governor and the APC for selecting Hon. Ododo Ahmed Usman as the party’s governorship candidate and expressed the group’s readiness to work towards ensuring the APC’s victory in the upcoming governorship election.

Given his seven years of experience working with the current administration, he was confident that his emergency would consolidate the current administration’s achievements.

While receiving them, the governor thanked the group for recognizing his administration’s accomplishments and choosing to join the APC.

Bello stated that, as a progressive party, the APC welcomes all individuals willing to contribute to the development of the state, assuring former PDP members that they will have equal rights and opportunities within the APC as existing members.
