Armed robbers cart away ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags filled with dollars in Abeokuta

A four-man armed robbery gang struck Abeokuta’s Oke-Sokori axis on Friday, carting away two Ghana-Must-Go bags allegedly filled with dollar notes.

WITHIN NIGERIA has learned that the suspects, who were armed with riffles, also covered their faces with masks during the three-minute operation.

The suspects were said to have fled the scene with the money in the ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags after ambushing their victim’s car, a Toyota Venza with the licence plate ABC 565 GN.

According to eyewitness accounts, the robbery suspects. At around 3:45pm, they approached the man in front of Fatgbems filling station in Oke-Sokori, where they stopped him and forced open the car’s boot.

“They offloaded the two bags containing the foreign currency into their car and zoomed off with the victim’s car key,” a source identified as Oyefemi, told our correspondent.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the victim had earlier approached a commercial bank to deposit the money, but he was turned back on the premise that the bank had closed for the day.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the police were already on the trail of the armed men.

Oyeyemi said the command had immediately sent signal across the state to ensure that the suspects are tracked down, assuring that “we will get them.”
