No fewer than 73 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) including their family members have surrendered to the troops of sector 1, operation Hadin Kai, in Borno.

Zagazola Makama disclosed that a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, 42 of the insurgents and their family members — comprising four males, 10 females and 28 children from Bula Bello, Zaramari and Garno villages — turned themselves in on Wednesday.

They were received by the troops of 202 battalion of 21 armoured brigade in Bama.

The publication said two males, seven females and nine children from Ngauri, Siraja and Nbellana villages also surrendered to troops of the 152 battalion.

At Bula Ashe, Guraba and Nemaila villages, one female and 13 children surrendered to the troops of the 151 battalion.

Zagazola Makama said nine ISWAP members, two adult females and six children from Ukuba, surrendered to the troops of the 26 task force brigade Garrison in Gwoza.

Sources in the military told the publication that profiling of the former terrorists was ongoing after which they would be handed over to the appropriate agencies.

Meanwhile, the troops of the 222 battalion killed one Boko Haram terrorist during a night patrol at Waroba general area during an operation “designed to deny the insurgents any freedom of action”.
