Enugu: Pregnant woman, son crushed to death in Awgu

A yet-to-be identified pregnant woman has lost her life while trying to save her son from  motor accident in Awgu.

According to an eye witness, the incident happened on Tuesday evening at Mmaku, Awgu local government area of the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the mother was with the son along the main road going to see a friend nearby when the incident happened.

Our source revealed that “suddenly, the son left the mother, trying to cross the main road on his own.

“However, when the mother saw that a trailer carrying some goods was speedily approaching the son, she rushed to save him only for the vehicle to crush two of them to death.

Another eye witness stated that “when the driver saw that he had unwittingly committed murder, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

“It took the intervention of officers of Awgu police divisional headquarters to stop the angry youths of the community from setting the vehicle ablaze.”

Our reporter gathered that the youths deflated the trailer tyres even as police took the bodies of the victims to an undisclosed mortuary.
