On Sunday, gunmen alleged to be members of a cult assassinated a middle-aged man following a church service in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

The man, identified as Ehis Dada, was claimed to have been shot dead by his assailants in Amagba, Benin, where he had gone for Sunday service.

The act purportedly shocked the neighbourhood, according to a shot video that is currently trending on several social media sites.

It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the killing or why the victim was slain.

Residents in the community have continued to express their concerns regarding the safety of worshippers in religious meeting places.

This is even as the incident has also sparked outrage among residents who are calling for a thorough investigation in order to bring the culprits to justice.

A resident said, “The deceased was shot dead after leaving the church on Sunday. This caused panic in the community and we are calling on the authorities.”

Efforts to get the police PPRO, Chidi Nwabuzor, proved abortive as the calls were not going through.

In other news, at Owan Community in Ovia South West Local Government Area, close to Benin in Edo State, several homes, including a worship center, were completely destroyed by fire on Thursday evening.

Witnesses claimed to the News Agency of Nigeria that a tanker carrying petroleum was to blame for the incident. The tanker fell, spilled its cargo, and then caught fire, destroying homes, businesses, and even a church along the community’s Benin-Akure axis.

Mr. Mathew Fapohunda, an eyewitness, informed NAN over the phone that “the event happened on Thursday between 4pm and 5pm.

“A tanker carrying petroleum product from Benin heading towards Akure fell into a gutter and burst into flames.
