  • Concerns raised over individuals lobbying for appointments based on friendship rather than effective participation in the campaign

The dissolved Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC) in Bayelsa State has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider those who campaigned for his election in the state’s ministerial slot and other appointments accrued to the state to help them deliver on the promises made to the people.

Pastor Joseph Fafi, Director of Finance at Tinubu/Shettima ICC in Bayelsa State, told Journalists in Yenagoa on Sunday that after working for the president’s victory, some politicians are now lobbying for ministerial appointments through the back door.

He stated that as the governorship election in the state approaches, it would be ideal to appoint a core party member as a minister in order to motivate the party for victory, as was done in the 2019 governorship election.

The Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC) was formed to amongst other things effectively sell their ticket by engaging in one-on-one campaigns with the electorate at the grassroots. The ICC in Bayelsa State under the leadership of Prince Preye Aganaba painstakingly set up the required structure up to the units. This is the structure that worked assiduously to produce the result we had.

While we acknowledge the immense contributions of some individuals, especially in Ogbia and Nembe Local Government Areas, the ICC played a major role in achieving those victories. There is no doubt that the ICC was the most visible campaign outfit reaching down to the grassroots in the state.

But we are worried at the action of some highly placed individuals both within and outside the state in recommending persons who contributed next to nothing for appointments; there are those whose sense of entitlement is only based on friendship to those in the corridor of power and not on effective participation, said.

I worked against Atiku during the presidential election – Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has stated that he has no regrets fighting ‘one hundred percent’ against Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the run-up to the February 25 election.

In defending his actions, Fayose indicated that he was not concerned about being expelled from the party for anti-party activity.

Even after President Bola Tinubu’s election, he pledged not to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The lawmaker made the announcement on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Sunday night.

I am still a member of the PDP except the PDP says ‘Fayose, we don’t want you anymore.’ Then they have set me free of the yoke. But in all sincerity, it is a party that I believe in, subscribe to, and want to stay forever. I will never join the APC, he said.
