N/Assembly Will Be Fair To All, Barau Assures Promoters Of New States From Kano

• Deputy Senate President assures fair constitutional review, and equal opportunities for state creation advocates like Tiga and Gari movements
• Senator Doguwa emphasizes dividing Kano into two states for development, not conflict, over 40-year advocacy

The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has assured Kano State’s supporters of the creation of Tiga and Gari states that the National Assembly will be fair to all during the review of the 1999 Constitution.

Senator Barau made the assurance during a courtesy call at the National Assembly on Wednesday from members of the movement led by Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa.

Barau, who chairs the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, stated that the 10th Assembly would provide equal opportunities for all groups advocating for state formation to present their cases.

He praised the Tiga and Gari states’ movements for keeping the momentum going over the years.

Senator Doguwa had previously emphasised the importance of splitting Kano State into two states. He stated that for the past 40 years, they have advocated for the division of Kano State due to its size and population to accelerate its development.

We want two more states to be formed out of Kano State.” This will result in much-needed development. We have been advocating for the creation of two more states from Kano for the past 40 years. We are pushing for it not to fight anyone, but to attract development, he explained.
