  • The accused has been arraigned and remanded for the offence
  • Concerned individuals, including friends, family members, and representatives of non-governmental organisations, demanded justice for the child

The Lagos State Government has taken swift action by shutting down the Greater Scholars International School in the Ajah area of the state.

This decision was made in response to the reported defilement of a four-year-old pupil by the school’s security guard, David James, on April 27, 2023, under the pretext of cleaning her.

The accused, David James, a 23-year-old security guard, has been arraigned and remanded for the offence.

He appeared before Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi of Magistrate’s Court 1, Ogba, on a charge of sexual assault.

Following the incident, the parents of the pupil, Mr and Mrs. Olusola, called on the state government to take action against the school.

The parents made the call in an interview with PUNCH.

A protest held at the school gate, featuring placard-wielding concerned individuals, including friends, family members, and representatives of non-governmental organisations, demanded justice for the child and the closure of the school.

Recent pictures circulating online reveal that the Lagos State Ministry of Education has sealed the school in response to the incident.

The father of the victim, Mr Olusola, expressed his appreciation for the government’s decisive action, stating, “This means Lagos State Government is working and is willing to do the right thing. We are happy that justice will be served.”

The ongoing court case is set to resume on September 4, 2023.
