Two arrested for stealing turkey, rice, palm oil, other foodstuffs in Ogun

In Ogun State, two individuals have been apprehended under suspicion of stealing various food items, including a live turkey, half a bag of rice, palm oil, and noodles.

The joint efforts of the Ogun State Police Command and the So-Safe Corps resulted in their arrest on Sunday in the Oke-Ejigbo district of Abeokuta, the state capital.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State police, disclosed that the alleged thieves, Kolawole Shobowale and Moruf Soyoye, had been engaging in acts of burglary and robbery, targeting shops and residences in the Oke-Ejigbo area.

The police spokesperson stated that Kolawole and Moruf were taken into custody at approximately 6:30 am on the previous day, aided by intelligence provided by Commander Lawal Mudashiru of the So-Safe Corps.

Reportedly, the So-Safe Corps officer spotted a trio of suspects and tracked them back to their residences, noting that one of the suspects had a blood-stained leg and was carrying a live turkey.

The So-Safe Corps operative proceeded to encircle the suspects’ residences, leading to the arrest of two of them, while one managed to escape.

Odutola stated that “those arrested have confessed to the crime.”

She listed the Items recovered from their houses to include one live turkey, kegs of palm oil, kegs of vegetable oil, a half bag of rice, Indomie noodles, macaroni, detergents, toothpastes, phones, GOtv decoder, sacks of clothes, insecticide, soaps among other foodstuffs and home use commodities.

It was gathered that residents of Oke-Ejigbo had stormed the Oke-Itoku Police Division to check if any of the items belonged to them.

Odutola added that the matter would be transferred to the State CIID for further investigation and likely prosecution.
