  • APGA and APC blame each other for Anambra’s failed local government elections, citing electoral promises and legal actions
  • APGA claims APC’s legal actions prevent election, while APC accuses APGA of inefficiency and leadership issues

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are blaming each other for the failure of Anambra State’s local government elections.

According to the APC, Soludo used the holding of council elections in September 2022 as part of his electoral promise to win the governorship election in 2021, but he failed to keep that promise.

Okelo Madukaife, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Anambra, stated that no court order prevented the state from holding LG elections, as claimed by the APGA.

He denied APGA claims that the Anambra State government cannot hold council elections due to ligation.

Anambra State is wasting money paying a set of near unproductive staff for doing next to nothing, having no board, and draining the resources of the state under the colorless leadership of Charles Soludo’s APGA, he said.

However, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, the state chairman of the APGA, claimed that the APC was to blame for the state’s failure to hold local government elections.

He said the APGA could not hold the election due to the APC’s legal action.

It’s a well-known fact that the suit instituted by APC that was dragged to the Supreme Court is the clog on the wheel of Anambra State government’s desire to conduct local government election, he said.

However, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, the state chairman of the APGA, claimed that the APC was to blame for the state’s failure to hold local government elections.

He said the APGA could not hold the election due to the APC’s legal action.

Anambra APC cannot use litigation to stop the government from conducting local government elections and be acting as if they want the election to be conducted.

As long as the case is not yet decided by the Supreme Court, any conduct of local government election is an exercise in futility because it will be declared null and void at the end of the day, he said.
