Court sends Lagos man to prison for abducting, raping minor

One Chibueze Amechi has been remanded for allegedly abducting and defiling a 16-year-old girl.

An Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State ordered the incarceration of the suspect on Thursday.

The 23-year-old unemployed defendant, whose address was not provided, faces a two-count charge of abduction and defilement.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs Olawunmi Osibanjo, Amechi committed the offences on July 24 at about 6:00 p.m. at Evergreen Road, Araromi area of Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Osibanjo told the court that Amechi abducted the 16-year-old from the custody of her parents to his house for one month.

The prosecutor also said that the accused person had carnal knowledge of the girl in contravention of Sections 269 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded at the Kirikiri custodial facility.

She ordered that the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Olagbegi-Adelabu adjourned the case until October 12 for mention.
