Two women have been arrested over alleged human trafficking in Ogun state, the police in the state have disclosed.
The suspects, who were nabbed on Tuesday, August 31, 2023 are identified simply as Mercy and Itoro.
The suspects were alleged to have trafficked a lady, identified as Veronica, to Libya for prostitution.
It’s gathered the Iperu Remo Divisional Police Officer, CSP Femi Osowe, led a team of policemen to effect their arrest.
The suspects allegedly belonged to a syndicate that exploited ladies after promising them jobs and better lives abroad.
Nemesis, however, caught up with them after their last victim’s caregiver, identified as Mrs Grace Anthony, filed a missing person report with the police.
A source said, “On August 27, Mrs Grace Anthony noticed the absence of Veronica, a 29-year-old lady living with her.
“After all efforts to find Veronica proved futile, Grace went on to file a missing person report.”
It’s gathered that the police went in search of the victim, but she was not found.
“On August 31, it was discovered that Mercy and Itoro had convinced Veronica and trafficked her to Libya for prostitution.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the incident.
She said, “The Commissioner of Police has been briefed. He described the act as barbaric and inhumane and has ordered that the two women be charged immediately.”
