  • Special prayers were held at six strategic entrance routes in Kano: Katsina road, Gwarzo road, Madobi Road/Sharada, Zaria road, Maiduguri road, and Hadejia road.
  • The prayer sessions were attended by top state government officials, politicians, and well-wishers

Thousands of New Nigeria People’s Party supporters held special prayers in Kano on Thursday in anticipation of the Election Petition Tribunal decision in hopes that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would be successful.

Recall that the APC is contesting the INEC’s decision to declare Kabir-Yusuf of the NNPP as the victor of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

The six strategically important Kano main entrance routes—Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Madobi Road/Sharada, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, and Hadejia Road—were the locations of the special prayer.

As the Tribunal set to deliver Judgement in the Governorship Elections dispute, Kwankwasiyya supporters offered the prayer to seek divine intervention in the outcome of the judgment.

The prayer sessions were also attended by top state government officials, politicians as well as well wishers.

Speaking at Zaria road, one of the prayer venues, the State Chairperson of the NNPP Women Group, Hajia Zuwaira Abubakar said the prayers were organised against all those working against the victory of Governor Yusuf at the tribunal.

“The prayers were organised to seek for Allah’s intervention against all those who are working against the success of the Governor in the tribunal,” she said.

Recall that this is the second time such prayers were being conducted by Kwankwasiyya (NNPP cum) supporters in the ancient city.

Kano tribunal reserved ruling on a petition filed by the All Progressive Congress, challenging the victory of Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party against governor Yusuf The Kano State Election Petition Tribunal, on 22 August, 2023.

Respondents in the petition are INEC, Kabir-Yusuf, and the NNPP.

The three-member panel of the Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, said the tribunal would communicate the date for the judgment after all parties must’ve adopted their final written addresses.
