Ondo trader arraigned for stealing power bank

In the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, a 24-year-old trader named James Ovie faced charges on Friday for allegedly stealing an Oraimo power bank valued at N35,000.

Ovie, whose residence is unknown, is accused of theft and appeared before the court, pleading not guilty to the charge. According to ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the prosecutor, the theft occurred on July 18 at 4:00 p.m. in Ijokodo, Okitipupa, where the defendant allegedly stole the power bank from a shop owned by Mr. Godwin Nwani.

The act is in violation of Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Cletus Ojuola granted the defendant bail at N100,000 and required a surety of equal amount, residing within the court’s jurisdiction, and able to provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Ondo State Government.

The case was adjourned for further hearing on Sept. 22.

In another news WithinNigeria reported that the Kebbi State Police Command successfully seized Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) valued at over Six Hundred Million Naira (N600m) and 7,500 live cartridges in Tsamiya Maje, Baguda Local Government Area of the state.

The interception, which occurred on September 15, 2023, led to the apprehension of four individuals linked to this illicit activity.

The police officers from the Border Drill unit intercepted two trucks during patrol, discovering significant consignments of Cannabis Sativa – 4,927 and 4,906 respectively – along with 7,500 live cartridges.

The arrested suspects, identified as Shola Adeyemi from Akure, Ondo state, Rasak Agbola from Oyo state, Emmanuel Chukuma from Abia state, and Kanta Bisa from Ghana, disclosed that the contraband originated from Ghana and Benin Republics, en route to Lagos, Nigeria.

Despite having passed 8 security checkpoints at the Nigerian border, they were intercepted in Bagudo local government area of Kebbi state. The police are actively investigating, with some suspects still evading capture.
