  • Justice Owolabi deemed the petitioner’s case unworthy, stating it failed to prove over-voting, violence, and certificate forgery beyond reasonable doubt.
  • The petitioner failed to prove non-compliance with the 2022 electoral act and other irregularities.

On Monday, the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal upheld the election of Mudassir Zawachiki of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the Kano State House of Assembly as a representative for the Kumbotso Constituency.

The appeal of Sagir Abdulkadir-Panshekara of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which contested Zawachiki’s victory on March 18, 2023, was rejected by the three-person panel, which was presided over by Justice L. B. Owolabi, in a unanimous decision.

According to him, the petitioner’s case lacked merit and failed to establish beyond a reasonable doubt the allegations of excessive voting, violence, and certificate fabrication.

“The petitioner failed to prove non-compliance with the 2022 electoral act and other irregularities.
