  • The Benue State Chapter of the PDP has rejected the tribunal’s decision to dismiss their petitions challenging Governor Hyacinth’s election victory
  • The party plans to file an appeal with the Court of Appeal in Abuja, believing they will ultimately reclaim the governorship mandate

The Benue State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision to dismiss the party’s and its Governorship Candidate, Engr. Titus Uba’s petitions challenging Governor Hyacinth’s victory in the March 18 election.

According to our correspondent, the three-man tribunal led by Justice Ibrahim Karaye upheld Governor Alia’s election on Saturday.

Bemgba Iortyom, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, stated in a statement that after reviewing the judgment with its team of lawyers, the party concluded that it did not meet the requirements of substantive justice and did not align with existing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations.

He stated that the party had instructed its lawyers to file an appeal with the Court of Appeal in Abuja within the timeframe specified by law.

Iortyom said that the party had urged its crowds of supporters across the state to remain calm and cheerful, believing that while the road to justice would be long, the goal of reclaiming the governorship mandate would be attained in the end.

Troops intercept eight vessels with stolen oil

Men of the Nigerian army have siezed eight barges smuggling over 100,000 litres of adulterated diesel in Rivers state.

The vessel was intercepted by The Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, saddled with the responsibility of stopping criminality in the Nigeria’s oil rich Niger Delta region.

Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, OPDS, Real Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, made the disclosure while presenting the seized barges and petroleum product to newsmen in Bonny on Sunday.

He said security forces impounded the vessels containing adulterated diesel during a stop-and-search operation across several creeks.
