In Akwa Ibom, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has seized two trucks carrying 75,000 liters of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). The NSCDC commandant in the state, Eluyemi Eluwade, shared this information during a press briefing in Uyo.
According to Mr. Eluwade, four suspects were apprehended at a filling station along Abak Road in Uyo Metropolis while trying to mix two products to create diesel.
He urged criminals in the state to change their ways and avoid illegal activities, as the command would continue to arrest them.
Mr. Eluwade emphasized the importance of protecting the oil industry, which plays a significant role in the Nigerian economy. He stated that the suspects would face legal action once the investigation is complete, serving as a deterrent to other criminals.
The first truck contained 45,000 liters of suspected Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), while the second truck contained 30,000 liters of suspected Marine Diesel Oil (MDO).
Mr. Eluwade highlighted that the activities of vandals and criminals could severely impact the nation’s economy. He stressed that a developing country like Nigeria cannot afford to allow such illicit activities to persist.
“Some other items recovered at the site included 13 jerry cans of 25-litre dissolver chemicals, four plastic hoses, two pumping machines, one generator, one electric pump and two flow metres.
“All these things are now in our custody, and the investigation is ongoing. These set of people are trying to put two products together to form AGO, according to our preliminary findings,” Mr Eluwade said.
