  • Lawyer suggests a mix-up led to “F” for female on President Tinubu’s certificate, citing Southwest College’s transcript
  • Atiku Abubakar’s case seeks clarification on President Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University, including gender mix-up

Wole Afolabi, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyer, has stated that a mix-up at Chicago State University is the reason President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s certificate shows an “F” for a female.

This was stated by Afolabi during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 25 election, has filed a case in the District Court of Northern Illinois in the United States, which recently ordered Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s academic records to him.

When asked why the President’s certificate has an “F,” Afolabi replied, “The transcript provided by Southwest College indicated F.” It was obvious. All of the other details matched President Bola Tinubu’s information. The registrar was now questioned about the discrepancies. He stated that the person applying for the school checked the box for a male rather than a female and that when the admission letter was issued, it was given to Mr Tinubu.

“When Dr West Brown was asked about it, he said it’s not uncommon for universities to mix up. West Brown has attended several universities. It is conceivable.”

Concerning the discrepancies in the signatures on the certificate, Afolabi stated that certificates were not issued at the time of graduation and had to be requested.

He also stated that the person who issued the certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC may not have been a student then.

In response, Segun Sowunmi, a former Atiku spokesperson, stated that they were unsure if Tinubu attended Chicago State University.

“We have it on record that they are fleeing left and right and cannot own the certificate stating he is female.” On that certificate, there is a security number associated with a female name. “How do we know if he went to school?”
