  • ADC urges INEC to ensure a free and fair Kogi State governorship election on November 11
  • ADC’s National Chairman advocates for the rotation of leadership among Kogi’s three senatorial zones to promote equitable representation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free, fair, and credible governorship election scheduled for November 11 in Kogi State.

ADC’s National Chairman, Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, addressed a press conference in Abuja and called on political stakeholders in Kogi to allow the state’s leadership to rotate among the three senatorial zones for equity and fair representation. He emphasized that democratic governance and development are promoted when power is shared fairly among different regions.

Nwosu highlighted the historical dominance of the Igala people from Kogi East in the state’s leadership and called for more equitable representation and opportunities for other senatorial zones, including Kogi West and Kogi Central. He criticized the concentration of power in Kogi Central and stressed the importance of respecting Nigeria’s diversity and cultural pluralism to promote good governance and development.

He urged political elites not to undermine the principle of fairness based on ethnicity, religion, or language, as such practices can negatively affect governance, leadership, and development, ultimately harming the country’s unity and progress.

Nigeria inflation climbs to 26.72%

Nigeria’s annual inflation rate rose to 26.72 per cent in September from 25.80 per cent in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.

The statistics office said the September 2023 headline inflation rate increased by 0.92 per cent compared to August 2023.

The NBS said on a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 5.94 per cent points higher compared to the rate recorded in September 2022, which was 20.77 per cent.

“This shows that the headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) increased in September 2023 when compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., September 2022),” it said.
