- The IGP has announced increased deployment of gunboats and boats for Bayelsa and Kogi polls, ensuring no VIPs can move with police escorts on election day.
- Police have completed a probe into 2023 electoral violations and forwarded it to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has the power to prosecute.
Prior to the governorship election, Mohammed Barde, the commissioner of Imo Police, would be redeployed, according to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The IGP made this revelation on Sunday night during a visit on the Peoples Townhall series on ChannelsTV, which Within Nigeria monitored strictly.
“I am aware that there have been allegations on social media against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State but for this election, we are changing the commissioner of police in Imo,” the Police boss said.
The IGP warned criminals to stay away from Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa polls adding that it won’t be business as usual.
Speaking further, Egbetokun stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has the authority to bring charges, has received the results of a police investigation into electoral irregularities in the 2023 elections.
More boats and gunboats will be sent out for the polls in Bayelsa and Kogi, the IGP revealed, adding that no VIP will be permitted to travel around with police escorts on election day.
