China is actively working towards strengthening its trade relations with Nigeria, according to the China General Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the opening of the 3rd Belt and Road China-Nigeria Economic and Trade Exhibition in Abuja on Thursday.
Mr. Liu Jiang, Deputy General Manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited and the representative of the Chairman of the Chambers, emphasized the commitment to enhancing and strengthening cooperation with local partners to align with China-Nigeria relations. He highlighted the successful completion of landmark projects in various sectors, including oil and gas, infrastructure, manufacturing, communications, agriculture, mining, and the Internet.
The Belt and Road initiative, proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, aims to promote policy communication, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and people-to-people exchange among countries. This initiative has created opportunities for economic development, infrastructural enhancement, and cultural exchange between China and Nigeria.
Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations in the House of Representatives, acknowledged the tremendous opportunities brought about by the Belt and Road initiative. Launched in 2013, this initiative seeks to connect Asia with Europe, Africa, and beyond through a series of infrastructural projects, including roads, railways, ports, and energy facilities. Nigeria, as the largest economy in Africa, has become a key participant in this initiative, aiming to improve its infrastructure, boost trade, and enhance its overall development framework.
