JUST-IN: Amidst Security Concern, Anti-Fubara Rivers Assembly Faction Convenes

• The lawmakers who led the move were reportedly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, who served as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

A group of the Rivers State House of Assembly, comprising about twenty members, occupied the Assembly premises on Tuesday morning and convened a plenary meeting.

It was learned that the legislators, who supported Speaker Martin Amaewhule despite his difficulties, wanted a police probe into the October 29 fire that occurred in the chamber.

The lamakers also talked on the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) suspending their strike.

It is still uncertain as of the time of publication if the MPs had resumed the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was allegedly supported by the lawmakers who spearheaded the initiative.

Moscow Road traffic, which was blocked throughout the sitting, is now open to cars and pedestrians. Police patrol vans are positioned at the entrance to the Assembly building. The House of Assembly complex’s entry was likewise secured by the police.

This occurred 48 hours after Edison Ehie, the divisive Speaker of the House, claimed to have been the target of an attempted murder on Sunday night.
