  • Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf attributes legal challenges to orchestrated attacks against political mentor Kwankwaso, vows to continue under his guidance
  • NNPP expresses concern over non-release of Court of Appeal judgment copy, alleging deliberate efforts to hinder justice

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has asserted that the legal challenges he is facing, including recent losses at the Elections Petition Tribunal and Court of Appeal, are orchestrated attacks against his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Speaking at a stakeholders meeting of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano, Yusuf addressed the political setbacks for the first time.

During the meeting, attended by key figures including the state deputy governor, speaker of the state House of Assembly, federal lawmaker, leaders of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and top government officials, Yusuf affirmed his commitment to continue working under Kwankwaso’s guidance. He urged party leaders not to lose hope and not to engage in bitter exchanges but to focus on motivating the people of Kano.

Yusuf pledged to persist with people-centered projects, including assistance to women and children, and the settlement of pensions and gratuity. Meanwhile, the NNPP raised concerns about the non-release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, emphasizing its impact on the party’s chances to restore the governor’s mandate. The party’s acting national chairman expressed worries about perceived deliberate efforts to frustrate their quest for justice.

In response, the Kano State Police Command issued a warning against potential violent protests, citing credible information about plans to disrupt the peace following the Appeal Court’s judgment. The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain calm and avoid unlawful gatherings, protests, or processions. The APC State Secretary and NNPP Deputy Chairman assured the police of their commitment to peace and directed their members to be law-abiding.
