  • According to Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, what happened in the judgment’s Certified True Copy was a clerical error.
  • Recall that Abba Yusuf has headed to the Supreme Court following the Appeal Court judgement, which sacked him as governor.

The Kano Governorship Judgment’s Certified True Copy (CTC) has been the subject of debate. The Court of Appeal has addressed this issue and reassured the public that any anomalies were the result of a clerical error and had no bearing on the court’s decision-making process.

Chief Registrar Umar M. Bangari, Esq. provided the explanation and guaranteed that the clerical error would be fixed as soon as the parties involved filed official applications for that purpose.

Order 23 Rule 4 of the Court of Appeal Handbook, which gives the court the authority to remedy any clerical error once it is discovered by the court or any of the parties involved, was brought to the reporters’ notice by Mr. Bangari.

“Contrary to insinuations, the judgment of the court remains valid,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abba Yusuf has headed to the Supreme Court following the Appeal Court judgement, which sacked him as governor.

Recall that INEC had declared Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, the winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Kano. However, the state governorship election petitions tribunal nullified his victory, declaring the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna, as Winner. This decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

However, in a Certified True Copy of the judgement, the Court of Appeal appeared to have ordered the APC to pay Governor Yusuf N1 million, with the judgement seeming to favour the NNPP candidate
