Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has unequivocally declared his full-blooded Ijaw identity, dispelling speculations to the contrary. Governor Fubara made this declaration while receiving the Kalabari traditional institution, Kalabari Se Kobiri, which formally informed him about the passing of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, King Theophilus Princewill, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Kalabari Se Kobiri delegation, led by the Regent of Kalabari Kingdom, Chief Charles Numbere, and Chairman of the Central Working Committee for the late monarch’s burial, Prince Tonye Princewill, visited the governor for this purpose.

Governor Fubara addressed the speculations surrounding his identity, emphasizing, “For the records, I am full-blooded Ijaw, up to my bones.” He underscored the integral role of Opobo and Kalabari in the larger Ijaw struggle, highlighting the inseparability of these communities from the Ijaw identity.
