  • According to reports from Channels TV, the bandits struck the communities around 8 pm on Friday, following prayers, primarily abducting women and children

Over 100 individuals were reportedly abducted by a group of armed assailants, referred to as bandits, in a widespread attack on residents of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State.

The assailants targeted four villages—Mutumji, Sabongari Mahuta, Kwanar Dutsi, and Unguwar Kawo—allegedly due to the communities’ failure to comply with imposed levies.

According to reports from Channels TV, the bandits struck the communities around 8 pm on Friday, following prayers, primarily abducting women and children.

Sources from Mutumji disclosed to the media that the bandits initiated the attack around 8 pm after prayers, instigating panic among residents by firing gunshots indiscriminately.

Residents said “a bandits’ kingpin operating in the area, Damina, had imposed N110million harvesting levy on the communities, giving them two weeks ultimatum to comply and pay.

“A N50million levy was imposed on Mutumji, N30million on Kwanar Dutsi, N20million on Sabongari Mahuta and N10million on Unguwar Kawo.”

While another source from the area said the communities had started gathering the money when the terrorists invaded the communities on Friday evening.
