  • Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf inaugurates the 44th Kano International Trade Fair, expressing commitment to fostering a favourable investment environment
  • The fair, themed on economic diversification, sees a subdued start, possibly influenced by political tensions and limited initial exhibitor turnout

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially inaugurated the 44th edition of the Kano International Trade Fair on Saturday, marked by a notable scarcity of exhibitors in attendance.

Despite expectations of over 200 companies from more than 10 countries participating in the fair, themed “Economic diversification, inclusive growth and sustainable development,” the initial day witnessed a subdued presence.

Represented by Commissioner Abbas Sani Abbas, Governor Yusuf expressed the state government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for domestic and international investors. He commended the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), led by Garba Imam, for positioning Kano as a model in commerce, industry, solid minerals, investments, and business development.

While the event was marked by the erection of stands by a few companies, the overall turnout remained below expectations. The limited participation on the first day is speculated to be influenced by the prevailing political tension in the state. Planned protests and rallies by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the same day, responding to the recent court of appeal verdict on the Kano State governorship election, could be a contributing factor.

Despite the subdued commencement, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, represented by Dangaladiman Kano, Kabiru Tijjani Hashim, added a touch of regality to the opening ceremony. As the trade fair progresses, organizers are hopeful that the number of participating companies will increase, contributing to the event’s success.
