APC Wins All Chairmanship, Councillorship Seats In Ekiti Council Polls

The election was held in all 16 local government areas and 22 Local Council Development Areas and across the 177 wards in the state.

  • EKSIEC Chairman said that the election was conducted in line with the electoral law of the state, applauded the people of Ekiti for their peaceful conduct during and after the poll.
  • He also commended the eight political parties that participated in the election for their sportsmanship and the electoral officials for exhibiting professionalism in the conduct of the poll

In Saturday’s Ekiti council elections, candidates for the ruling All Progressives Congress won all 177 council seats, including 38 chairmanships.

At Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission declared.

At the EKSIEC headquarters, returning officers from the local government and council development areas alternated in presenting the findings from the various council areas.

EKSIEC Chairman, retired Justice Cornelius Akintayo, applauded the electorate in Ekiti for the peaceful conduct of the election.

He also commended parties that took part in the election for their sportsmanship; EKSIEC staff who worked on the field; security agents and the media for a job well done.

Akintayo listed political parties that participated in the election as Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others, he said, were the Labour Party (LP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Zenith Labour Party ZLP.

EKSIEC commissioners and principal officers joined Akintayo at the presentation of the election results.

Prominent opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had earlier declared their disinterest in the council elections.
