  • Lawyer Kayode Ajulo alleges signature forgery by Ondo State officials in Governor Akeredolu’s absence, prompting calls for EFCC investigation
  • State Commissioner refutes claims, asserting the documents are entirely fake; human rights lawyer condemns forgery as a criminal act

The allegation of government officials forging the signature of the ailing Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has ignited a mix of reactions, prompting discussions on the state’s governance amid the governor’s prolonged absence.

Abuja-based lawyer Kayode Ajulo (SAN) stirred the controversy, claiming that certain commissioners in the state administration were engaging in signature forgery to carry out official activities. Speaking on Arise TV, Ajulo emphasized differences he observed between recent approvals and those made by the governor when he was in good health.

“As a lawyer, I have good authority on this. About five commissioners sent memos to the governor, and all of them returned with approval,” Ajulo stated, urging the EFCC to investigate the matter further.

He expressed concern over the alleged illegality reigning in the state, calling for President Bola Tinubu’s adherence to constitutional processes rather than political maneuvers.

However, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Olateju-Ademola, swiftly refuted the claims, asserting that the documents bearing the governor’s signatures were entirely fake. She highlighted her recent interaction with the governor, where files were submitted and returned within a week, debunking the notion of signature forgery.

In contrast, Ondo-born human rights lawyer Allen Sowore condemned the alleged forgery as a criminal act, urging all stakeholders in the state to take note. Sowore emphasized that forgery constitutes a punishable crime under the law, adding a layer of gravity to the controversy.

The unfolding situation has raised questions about the governance vacuum in Ondo State, with calls for thorough investigations and adherence to legal processes to ensure transparency and accountability.
