The Nigerian Army initiated ‘Operation Golden Dawn III’ on Wednesday, aiming to tackle security challenges in Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti inaugurated the exercise at the 14 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area.

Represented by Mr. Macdonald Uba, his Special Assistant on Security, Governor Otti expressed optimism about the exercise’s ability to eliminate criminal elements across the state.

He emphasized its role in bolstering security efforts, especially during the upcoming Yuletide season, to curtail crime.

Furthermore, the governor urged participating officers and personnel to strictly adhere to the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct throughout the exercise.

According to him, “This is to avoid any action that may infringe on the rights of the citizens and the host community.

“May I assure the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of our continued support within available resources, to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.”

In his welcome address, Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, explained that Operation Golden Dawn III is one of the exercises initiated by the Army in the South-East.

According to him, the exercise was designed to improve the security of law-abiding residents during the Yuletide season.
