  • Kano’s anti-graft agency, touted as the most vibrant subnational body, inspires other governors, emphasizing the need for national corruption combat strategies

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has revealed that his administration’s stringent anti-corruption measures have successfully saved the state billions of naira by plugging financial leakages.

Represented by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo at the World Anti-Corruption Day event organized by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), the governor emphasized that leakages in the system had previously led to the misappropriation of public funds, negatively impacting institutions, government offices, and the overall well-being of the public.

Governor Yusuf highlighted significant achievements in the state’s fight against corruption, including a robust stance against corruption and the recovery of public properties unlawfully acquired by individuals in the previous administration. He also noted the establishment of anti-corruption units within government agencies and the payment of pensions and gratuities totaling N6 billion to retirees neglected by the past regime.

In his opening address, Muhyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, touted the organization as the most vibrant subnational anti-graft agency in the country. He mentioned that other state governors sought inspiration and technical advice from Kano’s anti-corruption office.
