  • Kogi State Assembly members are set to reconvene in the refurbished complex after extensive renovation following the October 2022 fire incident
  • The Chief Press Secretary commended the completed renovation, and an exhibition convener praised the project as a world-class construction

On Sunday, the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, confirmed that the Assembly members would reconvene for plenary on Monday in their refurbished complex in Lokoja, the state capital.

According to the Speaker, the complex, devastated on October 10, 2022, has undergone extensive renovation and is now ready for use. The fire, which broke out around 7 am, completely consumed the chamber, gallery, furniture, roof, and air conditioners. It took the efforts of firefighters from Dangote Cement in Obajana several hours to extinguish the flames.

In a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed, affirmed that the complex’s renovation had been completed. He mentioned, “The renovation of the complex has been completed, and we hope to resume plenary in the complex by tomorrow, December 11, by God’s grace.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Oladipo Bayode, convener of the Annual Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibition (BEBM), applauded the technical competence and workmanship invested in the assembly complex’s renovation. During a visit to the project site, Bayode praised the job as “a world-class construction with high value for money.”

In his commendation, Bayode expressed pride in the remarkable standard of the renovation project and encouraged the contractor and service providers to maintain their laudable standards. He stated, “As a professional body, we commend the handling of the renovation project. It is a marvelous job, and we are proud of it. We hope that the contractor will continue to maintain the laudable standard he is known for in all his projects.”
