  • The state has been simmering in the cauldron of political upheaval as the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, battle for its control

Some angry youths in Rivers state on Friday took to the street to express their disaffection with the recent events in the state, especially the political crisis rocking the state.

The state has been simmering in the cauldron of political upheaval as the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, battle for its control.

The duo met on Monday at a meeting called by president Bola Tinubu to resolve the political impasse.

At the meeting a resolution was signed by the warring parties.

But political analysts and observers say that the agreement brokered by the President gave undue advantage to Wike and weakened Fubara.

Protesting in Port Harcourt on Friday, The aggrieved youths admonished Fubara against accepting and implementing the terms of the resolution.

The youths were quite vocal about their rejection of certain aspect of the peace accord and resolution.

They warned Fubara against recalling the commissioners that resigned from his administration.

The protesters told the governor against re-presenting the 2024 budget to the House of Assembly.

The youths, who protested in large numbers in Port Harcourt on Friday, said they will occupy the Government House if the governor fail to heed the warning.

“We’re calling on the governor not to recall any Commissioner. Any attempt to recall any Commissioner, we’ll occupy the Government House,” the protesting youths hammered.

“Nyesom Wike did not vote for Sim alone. We also voted for Sim. We’ll not allow anybody, anybody all to truncate the will of Rivers people.

“So we’re calling on the Governor, don’t be under any pressure from anybody. We want to call on the Governor, don’t return the budget to the Assembly.

“The Rivers State House of Assembly has only one Speaker recognised by the law which is Edison Ehie. And as such, the seats of the 27 lawmakers are vacant. We want to call on the Governor, we voted for you and you must listen to us, Tinubu is not from Rivers State,” a leader of the protesting youths said.
