  • Adebutu told newsmen that he had visited the Police on his own volition.
  • Adebutu, along with party chieftains, arrived at Police headquarters at 11:10am, visited the commissioner’s office, and then visited the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID.

Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Ogun State, visited the state police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, on March 18, despite rumours that he had fled.

Adebutu was accused of leaving the nation due to accusations made against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, of vote buying and money laundering, among other things. Adebutu spent nine months abroad on medical vacation.

The PDP flagbearer went to the Police after his return to refute the accusations.

Adebutu, who was accompanied by chieftains of the party, arrived at the Police headquarters around 11:10am, moved straight to the commissioner’s office after which he visited the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department,CIID.

Speaking with journalists shortly before leaving the Command, Adebutu told newsmen that he had visited the Police on his own volition.

He said, ” I have come and I’m happy that this institution has done well, they have listened, they have taken records and I’m sure that this is the way to a better Nigeria.

“The frivolous allegations that Ladi Adebutu has been laundering his money, I don’t know how you can launder your personal wealth, that is the allegation against me by the APC; that I have laundered my money, that I have used my money to create empowerment for people that I feel compassionate about Nigerians that are in need, that I have helped but they should note, I will continue to help.

“ It was a dictate by my late mother to be of help to women and children. We have done empowerment programmes and we will continue to do them. By January 19th, 2024 which marks one year of her passing away, we will be having special programmes again to continue these empowerment programmes as we have done over years. But because these people (APC) lack empathy, they lack compassion for society, they trivilise and politicise everything.”
