President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his New Year message to Nigerians, unveiled plans aimed at securing a consistent and affordable food supply for the nation.
He highlighted efforts focused on mitigating the hardships faced by Nigerians, expressing the government’s commitment to cultivating 500,000 hectares of farmland across the country.
This initiative aims to produce essential crops such as maize, rice, wheat, millet, and other staples, ensuring food security for the populace.
“To ensure constant food supply, security and affordability, we will step up our plan to cultivate 500,000 hectares of farmlands across the country to grow maize, rice, wheat, millet and other staple crops. We launched dry season farming with 120,000 hectares of land in Jigawa State last November under our National Wheat Development Programme”, he said.
