Sokoto government will end banditry, says APC

  • Acida praised the governor’s commendable performance within the initial seven months of his administration

The Sokoto State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reiterated Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s unwavering dedication to combatting the menace of banditry and addressing various security issues in the state.

Speaking at the party’s secretariat in Sokoto, the state chairman, Isa Sadiq Acida, reaffirmed this commitment while also extending congratulations to the governor on his 54th birthday. Acida praised the governor’s commendable performance within the initial seven months of his administration.

He said, “In the area of security, you have proven your commitment to securing the state through collaboration and cooperation with security agencies at state and federal levels.

“Your assistance to the security agencies, and the provision of the right caliber of vehicles, has been severally applauded, even by the highest echelon of the military.

“The collaboration has begun to bear fruit as the bandits are now being pursued in their hideouts and attacked, while several of their innocent victims are constantly being freed.

“The initiative of enacting a law to establish community guard corps and providing them with adequate transport and armaments is another giant stride to end banditry and enthrone a secure and peaceful Sokoto State within the year 2024.”

The chairman also commended the governor for other social activities which include the ongoing construction of another 500 housing estates in the Wakaje village area of the Wamakko Local Government

He, however, called on the opposition parties in the state to join hands with the administration, saying the governor has promised to complete all the ongoing inherited projects by the previous administration.

Sokoto state has experienced many bandit attacks in recent months.

In December alone, the state witnessed multiple bandit attacks leading to the death of several citizens.

On December 3 that no fewer than seven persons were reportedly killed in separate bandit attacks on two communities in the state.

This was as another 12 persons were reportedly killed by suspected gunmen in Kurya village, Rabbah Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Christmas eve.
