Senator Walid Jibrin, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed for calm in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Nasarawa governorship election.
The Supreme Court, led by Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on Friday, upheld the election victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, dismissing the appeal filed by David Ombugadu of the PDP.
In response to the verdict, a violent protest erupted in Lafia, the state capital, resulting in the arrest of several suspects by the police.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Senator Walid Jibrin urged PDP members and supporters to accept the ruling of the apex court. He emphasized the importance of respecting the decision of the Supreme Court and called on politicians in the state, regardless of party affiliations, to unite in supporting Governor Sule’s efforts to elevate the state.
He stated, “Anybody that tries to go against the decision of the Supreme Court is creating a problem for themselves and for the state. The only thing we should do is to accept the will of God.”
Senator Walid Jibrin’s call for peace and acceptance of the court’s decision aims to foster unity and stability in Nasarawa State after the keenly contested governorship election dispute.
