At least fourteen abducted persons have been rescued from kidnappers terrorising Abuja, the police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have said.

The FCT Police Command says its operatives attached to the Anti-kidnapping Unit and the Rubochi Division carried out the rescue operation.

The police in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, one suspected kidnapper was killed during the operation which took place on Wednesday.

She said the successful operation was part of the ongoing fight to rid nation’s capital city of kidnappings and other crimes.

According to her, the combined team, which acted on credible intelligence, stormed a kidnappers’ den located at Ukya village in Nasarawa State, bordering FCT, on Wednesday.

She said on sighting the security operatives, the kidnappers opened fire on the police officers, resulting in a gun duel.

The Police Public Relations Officer disclosed that the rest of the assailants fled to a nearby forest with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

“The hostages who were rescued unhurt have since been reunited with their loved ones.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Haruna G. Garba, wishes to reiterate his commitment to rid the FCT of criminality in all its manifestations and maintenance of peace for all and sundry,” the statement added.
