  • Pep Guardiola confirms that Kyle Walker will continue as Manchester City’s captain, emphasizing it’s a collective team decision despite recent controversies
  • The manager expresses support for Walker, focusing on football matters and steering clear of public discussions about players’ personal lives

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has confirmed that Kyle Walker will retain his role as captain, emphasizing that the decision is a collective one for the team and not solely his.

This statement follows recent reports about the private life of the England defender, who publicly apologized to his family on Monday for being involved in an extra-marital affair. Despite the off-field challenges, Guardiola is adamant that Walker’s captaincy remains unaffected.

Walker, aged 33, assumed the captain’s armband after Ilkay Gundogan’s departure to Barcelona during the summer, a decision supported by his teammates.

In response to queries about Walker’s captaincy, Guardiola stated, “Absolutely, because it’s a decision for the team and not me.” He further expressed his support for Walker and his family, affirming that personal issues of players would not be discussed publicly.

The Spaniard underscored his commitment to focusing on football matters, steering clear of commenting on the players’ private lives. Since joining Manchester City in 2017, Walker has been a vital part of the team’s success, contributing to the acquisition of 14 major trophies, including five Premier League titles.

As Manchester City aims for an unprecedented fourth successive league title and their sixth under Guardiola, the manager remains steadfast in supporting Walker, highlighting the team’s unity in facing challenges both on and off the pitch.
