  • Governor Zulum unveiled plans to subsidize fuel costs for farmers in Damasak, Borno State, to address food scarcity challenges
  • Zulum pledged support for farmers, including providing solar water-pumping generating sets, seedlings, fertilizer, and other agricultural inputs

In a bid to tackle food scarcity in Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has unveiled plans to subsidize fuel costs for farmers in Damasak, the main town of Mobbar Local Government Area.

Damasak, a pivotal agricultural center in Borno, is slowly recovering from a prolonged crisis fueled by Boko Haram insurgents.

During a two-day visit to oversee the distribution of relief to widows and vulnerable women, the governor stressed the critical role of agriculture.

Zulum, committed to making Borno self-sufficient in food production, pledged to provide support to farmers, including the provision of solar water-pumping generating sets, seedlings, fertilizer, and other agricultural inputs.

“To ensure sustainable livelihoods for our people, we’re taking deliberate measures to boost agricultural productivity and ease the economic burden on farmers in the Damasak area,” Zulum affirmed.

Recognizing that farmers in the community rely heavily on generators powered by fossil fuels, Zulum outlined plans to address this challenge.

“The government will identify two fueling stations and supply petrol (PMS) with subsidies to reduce costs for farmers,” he announced. “This will enable them to access petrol at a lower price, facilitating affordable irrigation of their farmlands.”

In addition to petrol subsidies, the governor reiterated commitments to distributing solar water-pumping generating sets, seedlings, fertilizer, and other agricultural inputs to support farmers in Damasak.
