A 51-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly raping a minor in Kwara State.
The suspect was arrested by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state capital, Umar Mohammed, the state commandant of NSCDC, said that the 14-year-old reported the incident on February 19, 2024.
He also disclosed that the victim happens to be a cousin of the suspect’s wife and has resided with the couple since she was 11 years old.
According to him, the victim said the suspect has been having carnal knowledge of her since last year.
“The victim reported that the suspect had been assaulting her sexually since November 2023, particularly on Sundays when there were no other persons at home.
“She also stated that the suspect threatened to harm her if she ever disclosed the illicit relationship to anyone,” Mohammed said.
He further said that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation
