The Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BOIRS) has introduced tax relief measures to mitigate hardship and enhance the state’s business environment.

Prof. Bello Alhaji Ibrahim, the executive chairman of BOIRS, revealed this during a press conference held in Maiduguri on Saturday.

Ibrahim highlighted that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has endorsed Executive Order 5, which establishes a mechanism for addressing grievances.

Emphasizing the significance of tax revenue for driving meaningful development initiatives, Ibrahim stressed the pivotal role played by governments worldwide in leveraging tax proceeds for developmental projects.

Furthermore, he disclosed that the service has successfully implemented measures to curb revenue leakages, resulting in N2.8 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) between January 1 and February 15, 2024.

Providing a breakdown, Ibrahim stated that the service collected N1.7 billion in revenues in January, with an additional N1.1 billion generated from February 1 to 15.

Additionally, he highlighted that BOIRS had generated N19.4 billion from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and local government councils in the year 2023.
